Re:Sense - Sight
Master Thesis
Multisensory Knitwear Design
In response to societal overstimulation and sensory overload, Re:Sense explores how multisensory knitwear can foster conscious perception and well-being. Drawing on neuroscience, design theory, and sociology, this collection comprises six couture outfits addressing visual, tactile, acoustic, and olfactory stimuli.
Each piece is independently programmed using Stoll M1plus software and activates specific senses through crossmodal correspondences: rustling textures, gradient color shifts, lavender infusion. All garments are independently programmed using Stoll M1plus software and produced with sustainable merino wool supported by Südwolle Group via fully-fashioned knitting technology, ranging from voluminous 3D textures to delicate surface patterns. The work positions fashion as a medium for sensory awareness and deceleration in an accelerated world.
The Outfit Sight embodies the eye's anatomy through a voluminous balloon skirt in gradient satin, transitioning from blue through violet, pink, and red to capture the spectrum of chromatic vision and the light-refracting quality of the iris. A delicate lace-knit bodysuit interprets the retina's sensory precision, while an oversized black turtleneck frames the face as the pupil, and fringed sleeves evoke the protective function of lashes, transforming the wearer into a living visualization of sight itself and symbolizing the dominance of visual sense in our time.
